Six Month Mark!

From the Letter to the President:

This past week was phenomenal! We were able to find a lot of new people to teach. We saw so many miracles!!!

On Tuesday we were able to have exchanges with the Sister-Training Leaders. I was thrilled to work with my trainer Hermana Brown again. We had a great day of work. We were able to teach many lessons and find some new people to teach. We taught a less-active, A, about the Sacrament. She has not been to church for a while and she told us that she knows that she needs to come back. She wants to be able to partake of the Sacrament. We have been working with her to help her get back to church.

We were also about to teach W. He is an older man who is a Quaker. His mother was a Quaker and his father was an atheist so I think that he is a little confused as to what he believes. We were able to teach him about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith. We committed him to read in the Book of Mormon. We are excited to keep working with him.

On Wednesday we were able to have a lesson with S. We taught him the 10 commandments, obedience, and about studying the scriptures. On Thursday we were able to teach him the law of chastity. S is doing so great and is excited for his baptism on the 26th. S and his whole family came to church again this week! It was such a miracle! His family has been less-active for about 4 years. We were able to have a lesson with the entire family after church yesterday. It was amazing! We are thrilled to be working with this family and help them come back to the church.

Also this week we had the opportunity to teach D and B. We taught them about obedience, the importance of prayer, and about studying the scriptures. We were also able to share some stories about Christ's life. B loves learning about Jesus Christ. Whenever we ask her what she wants to learn about she always says Jesus Christ. We love working with B. We want to help her feel more comfortable at church. It is always so fun teaching B!

We were also able to meet with another less-active named K. K's husband isn't a member. She has a testimony of the Book of Mormon. However, she told us that she was not really sure about Joseph Smith. We thought about how we could help K and decided to watch the Restoration with her. She really liked it. She commented that she liked how Joseph took time to study and find an answer. At the end of the lesson she said that she was beginning to think that Joseph Smith truly was a prophet. It was amazing to see her heart soften. The spirit was so strong during our lesson. It bore witness to me that Joseph Smith truly is a prophet of God. A young boy called to bring back the original church of Jesus Christ. It was an amazing lesson.

On Friday we were able to teach C. She had many questions that we were able to answer. We have not yet covered all the material in the Restoration due to the fact that she has so many questions. However, we love teaching her and answering her questions. C was also at church yesterday. She really liked it. She is planning on coming next week and bringing her 8 year old son J.

We taught a less-active named A. I have never met him before but he was very nice. We were able to have a lesson with him, his 2 daughters, and his parents. He said that he did know that he needs to be coming to church. His daughters are not members but they are going back to live with their mom, who does not live in our area.  We are excited to get to know him better and continue working with him.

On Saturday we were able to have a lesson with a woman named J. She is a very sweet lady who has been through a lot. Her 19 year old son died a year ago. Her brother died 2 weeks ago. Now, her sister has been having a problem with aneurysms and seizures. We were able to help comfort her and bring her some peace. She is a really strong lady. She knows that she needs to come to church and wants to. She really has a lot of faith. The missionaries have met with her in the past but she has just been so busy lately that we haven't been able to stop by. It was such a miracle that we were able to talk with her and help comfort her.

Also this week Hermana Newland and Hermana Cannon had the opportunity to visit a less-active. G is 72 and hasn't been to church for some time. A week ago I felt that I should give him a talk to read. We went over to his house. He was there but he did not answer the door so we left the talk for him to read. The talk we gave him is called The Atonement and Journey through Mortality by David A. Bednar. Apparently he loved this talk and read it 3 times. He told the Hermanas that now he finally understand the Atonement. He was so excited! I wish I could have been there. However, I am so excited for him and grateful that I was able to listen to a prompting from the Lord.

Yesterday was a marvelous day. Hermana Newland and I were able to talk in Sacrament meeting. We talked about the importance of members and missionaries working together. Hermana Newland was also able to talk about the Plan of Salvation and I talked about the Atonement. We were thrilled to have 4 investigators at church yesterday.

We are seeing so many miracles here in Santa Paula! This is truly the Lord's work! I love being a missionary! There is absolutely no other way I would rather spend my time! I know that this church is true! It is all true!

Mom! Haha last week I bought a really cute skirt, a shirt, and some cute shoes. At this rate I will have to start sending things home. I am accumulating things on the mission. How much money do I have on my debit card?

Wow, thanks for buying me a camera. I'll be looking for it! Thanks so much! Thanks for the scripture case too!

My legs have been doing better! Lots better. But if I continue to have problems I will take care of it. Thanks for the advice!

Oh you met the Wutkee's! Do you love them?! They are so nice!

Yes, it's crazy that tomorrow is my 6 months. I can't believe it! The other day someone asked me how long that I've been out and I said 6 months and they told me that I don't have much time left. What?! That's crazy! But yes, time is passing so quickly! And a year isn't long at all! It's crazy!

I LOVE my trainer Hermana Brown! We had so much fun together!

She is such a hard worker! It was fun to get to work with her again for a day.

We were able to assemble a dog house for K.

It included some drilling so we had fun. We also ask people if there is anything that we can do for them, and they always say no. We were thrilled that she actually let us serve her!

Yes, I am doing so great! I love all of you so much! Thank you SO much for all your love, support, and prayers! It means the world to me! We talked in church yesterday and it was great! A lot of people came up afterwards and told us good job. It was so fun to talk. 15 minutes just flew by. I remember trying to come up with a 15 minute talk for my farewell and that was a struggle. Haha now, it is no problem at all. Oh I love being a missionary!

Have a great week!

Con mucho amor,

Hermana Killpack :)

Another "Phenomenal" Week

From the letter to the Mission President:

This week has been phenomenal! Hermana Newland and I are working hard in here in Santa Paula! We are loving every minute! We were able to have some great experiences and lessons this week.

This week we were able to meet with a man named B. Growing up he has had some member friends and he feels drawn towards the church. However, he feels like he is being held back by his girlfriend and his mom. We were able to teach B about the Book of Mormon and talk about the importance of putting God first in our lives. We read the introduction with him and he thought that it was beautiful. We invited B to read in the Book of Mormon and give it some serious thought. He told us that he had prayed about our church before and that he did not feel that it was right for him. We invited him to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. He has a lot of challenges right now in his life. We were able to testify with power that if he read, he could know that our message is true.

I have a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. It truly is a book inspired of God. By reading it every single day we can strengthen our own testimony. The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion and a man can get nearer to God by abiding by it's precepts than by any other book. I know this to be true! I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon!

We were also able to find a woman named C. She is so fun to teach! She wants her son to be involved in scouts. At first she thought that we were Jehovah's Witness. Apparently her mom is a Jehovah's Witness. She disagrees with her mom's beliefs and was excited to listen to us. She is one of the happiest people I have every met. We were able to talk about the Restoration. She read the pamphlet with her son and had some great questions. We were also able to talk about the Book of Mormon. She told us that she had received a Book of Mormon from one of her friends more than 20 years ago. She still had it in one of her cars.

It is amazing to see the influence that people can have on their friends. We never know what sharing something, a Book of Mormon, our testimony, or whatever it may be with a friend can do. It truly is so important to realize that every member is a missionary. Members often can get places that we as missionaries can't. I know that when members and missionaries work together, that is when miracles happen.

This week were also had another lesson with S. We were able to talk about the Word of Wisdom. We explained to S that our bodies are temples and that they are gifts from God. We taught him that we should take care of our bodies. S is 11 and plays football. He loves football! We promised him that if he continues to live the Word of Wisdom that he can be a better football player. He can be better in sports. S told us that he would live the Word of Wisdom. He was excited to learn of the blessings that come when we live this commandment. S is doing so great and really has a desire to be baptized. We are helping him to prepare. Yesterday the whole family was at church! S loved church. I have never seen him so excited! We are excited for him and his family! They told us they were planning on coming to church again next Sunday. S's mother and older siblings are members. The father and S are not. We are trying to meet with the whole family so that we can teach S and his father. S is scheduled to be baptized on the 26th of July.

We also have been meeting with B and D. B is doing great and progressing. She is really shy which makes it hard for her to come to church sometimes. This week we were able to teach her the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the 10 commandments, and the Sabbath Day this week. We have been thinking and praying a lot about how we can best help B. We love teaching her and are excited to help her continue to progress.

This week has been amazing! Every single night we are exhausted from working so hard. I love it! I would have it no other way! I know that this is the Lord's work. It is His work and His glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. It is also my work and my glory. I love being a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is the most humbling calling I have ever had! I know that my Savior lives! I know this church is true! I love being a missionary!

Santa Paula is a lot smaller than Thousand Oaks. As for a case for my scriptures hmmm not sure. Maybe something different. Whatever you find will be great. You obviously have great style if you are wearing my clothes. :)

7th heaven looks SO fun! I'm glad you all had a blast! That is so fun! Yes, I LOVE driving again! It's not hard driving haha yes I remember the Suburban. However my parking spot if for a compact car. And my car is not compact. But I make it work :)

Glad to hear you like my haircut. I'm still getting used to it.

This dog is huge!

It's a Malamute...not really sure how to spell it but he is huge! Super friendly though, so I got a picture.

This is a really bad picture of me but I thought the wall was really cool. Reminded me of Dad. There are a lot of cool murals here.

Well I need to go but thanks so much for all of your love and prayers. It really does make the world of difference. I am doing so great and truly loving life.

P.S I might go shopping for some clothes today, I don't really need anything but sometimes it's fun so don't worry if you see that my card is being used.

Love ya lots!

Preaching in Paradise

From the letter to the President:

This week was wonderful! I was just transferred to Santa Paula! We have already been seeing so many miracles! Every single day is a blessing! I absolutely love training Hermana Newland. She is a really hard worker so we get along wonderfully!

This past week we had the opportunity to teach some great lessons.  On Tuesday we were able to have a lesson with a recent convert and her nonmember siblings. This recent convert is named D. She is the oldest of 5 children. She is 19 and was baptized a couple months ago. She already has such a strong testimony of the gospel. We have mainly been focusing on D's younger sister B.  B and D came to church yesterday. They both enjoyed church.  We are excited to continue working with B.

This week we also taught a boy named J. We were out walking and turned down a completely empty street. Halfway down the road we wondered if we should turn back. We decided to keep walking. That's when we found J. He was really intent on listening to us. He told us that he wanted something better from his life. He told us about some of the problems that he has had in the past, but that he truly has a desire to change. We were able to have a really great lesson with him. It was such a tender mercy that we were able to find Jonathon. I am always amazed to see the hand of the Lord in this work. It truly was miraculous!

We are working with a young boy named S. He is 11 years old and preparing for baptism. His mother is a member but his father is not. His mom wants S to be baptized but they have not been to church in a long time. S has a sincere desire to follow Christ. We are trying to work to get S and the family to church. We were able to teach S about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was so fun to teach him!

We were able to have a wonderful lesson with a man named L. He came to church last week. He said that he was praying to know which church to join. He loves what we have to share. He has great faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to follow him. We were able to read with L from the Book of Mormon. He told us that he really likes the way our church is organized. The way he was talking it almost sounded like he was already a member of our church. We are excited to continue working with him and prepare him for baptism. He has a baptismal date of July 26th.

Yesterday we were able to have a great lesson with our investigator S. He was at church yesterday and he brought his 3 year old grandson. He really enjoyed our church and loved meeting the members. S loves listening to our message. We were able to teach him more about the Book of Mormon yesterday. We invited him to read it and he said that he would. S also has a desire to do what it right. We are going to continue working with him and set him with a baptismal date.

We were able to meet with a number of less-actives last week. We had some great lessons with them. We were able to meet with an older gentleman, G. He knows that the church is true. He told us that all his life he has felt forced into going to church and that he does not want to feel that way. We were able to talk about Christ's love. I showed him a picture of Christ knocking on a door. On Christ's side of the door, there is no doorknob. We talked about how Christ is always there knocking at the door, just waiting for us to open it. He really enjoyed our lesson. I am excited to help this man come back to church.

We also met with a less-active named A. We were able to share a scripture about charity. We talked about examples of charity, with Christ being the ultimate example. The Spirit was able to speak through us and touch her heart.

The most humbling thing about being a missionary is having the Spirit work through me. I realize that when I teach with the spirit, not only is the investigator learning, but I am also being edified. I love being an instrument in the Lord's hands!

I am so excited to be able to work in Santa Paula. The field is white already to harvest. I am thrilled to be here and continue working hard. I love being a missionary! I know that this church is true! There is absolutely no other way I would rather spend my time! I love life! Life is beautiful!

Mom! This week has been great! So much has changed it's crazy! I'm working as a Zebra missionary currently. Which means I am doing English and Spanish work. It's great! I absolutely love it because I can talk to anyone. Although it was weird going to Sacrament meeting yesterday in English. I missed my little Spanish family in Thousand Oaks but I know that they are in good hands.

So yes, I am driving now. It's a Ford Fusion. A 2013 or 2014 I think. It's a pretty nice car. But kinda big. It's the same car the the ZL's in my last area had. My first trainer Hermana Brown always called it the spaceship because it's so big. So I'm driving the spaceship. Haha it's fun!

Oh, perhaps you may have noticed that my hair is shorter. Yes, yes it is. Word of advise, if you ever get your haircut in California, tell them you want it longer than you actually do. Then maybe you'll get what you want. Haha don't worry, I know that hair grows, and I needed a haircut. But yeah, my hair is gone again.

So this next picture I was trying to illustrate my profound tan line. I love that you can see my foot in this picture. It's the difference between night and day.

Yesterday at church someone asked me if I was Native-American. And then after church someone asked me if I was Hispanic because "I spoke really good Spanish" haha It's always fun to see people trying to guess what I am. I am just a tan Caucasian. Also, people love my last name Killpack. Like everyone! It's something I can't explain. Everyone always asked where my ancestors came from. That might be a good time to bring up family history and genealogy? ;)

Oh and since I am a zebra missionary now. So English and Spanish scriptures out everyday. I am trying my best to be careful with my English scriptures.

This is D and B.

And this is my companion Hermana Newland.

Her dad lives in Oklahoma and her mom lives in Colorado. She is so great! Really nice! And likes to run! She went to BYU-I before her mission and she loves Idaho! Which is great! She likes to work hard!

She is so cute! I love her so much! I know this transfer is going to be great together! I will try and write a letter! I did receive your last letter mom about you going to work. I hope all is going well! I'm praying for all of you! Please have the best week every! I'm doing great just preaching in paradise! :)

Transfers

From the letter to the President:

This week has been wonderful! I know that I am truly preaching in paradise! This is the Lord's work! As missionaries we are instruments in His hands to bring about His work and His glory.

This week we were able to teach A about tithing. She has been more busy than usual so we have not been able to meet with her as much this week. She was receptive to the law of tithing and we committed to pay her tithing after her baptism. We had to postpone her baptism because we all felt that she was not quite ready. However, we are working hard with her and she is preparing to be baptized. She was able to come to church yesterday. She also brought her two daughters. Yesterday we had branch conference. There was a lot of the emphasize placed on the family. A quote from the conference is "The way of Salvation in through the doctrine of the family." I know that is so true. That family is the most important blessing that we have been given.

Serving here in Thousand Oaks I feel like these people here are my family. I love them. I have loved serving with them. They truly are my brothers and sisters and perhaps that is why I have so thoroughly enjoyed my mission thus far. I am helping my brothers and sisters to have the happiness that I have. The most important thing that I could ever share with anyone is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The enabling and healing power of the Atonement is very real. I have been able to gain strength from the Atonement every day of my life.

We also had another miracle this week. We were looking through some of our investigators and thinking about dropping some of them. We decided to give our investigator G one more chance. We texted G and were surprised at his response. About a transfer earlier we had taught him most of the lessons. We had taught him about the Word of Wisdom and that's when he disappeared. It was like he fell of the face of the earth. He had so much potential. We were sad thinking that we had lost him. But then he texted us back and said that he had quit drinking 2 weeks previous due to an incident that happened. Later he told us why. He had made some wrong choices and in the process he lost his phone, sunglasses, and hat. He realized that he wanted to be better. He wanted to change. He did not want to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. So he decided he was going to quit drinking. It was such a miracle! For G, this time was a trial in his life. We were able to see that really it was a blessing in disguise. A blessing to help convince G of the promises that come when we live the commandments of God.

This Friday was phenomenal! It was so fun to be able to attend Youth Conference! We loved being able to work with the youth and help them practice to be better missionaries. We loved teaching them about Preach My Gospel! I was impressed by the youth here. They are the future missionaries of the world. I was able to tell which of the youth had grown up reading scriptures with their families and saying family prayers. Something so simple such as reading and praying really does produce extravagant results. These certain youth seemed better prepared to answer our questions and they were able to testify with power and authority. It was such a fun day! I loved every minute of it.

We were also able to teach E this week. He is the son of our recent convert G. We were able to teach him the importance of patience. It was a great lesson for both G and his son. G also is doing wonderfully. His faith is growing everyday. I know that he has a testimony of prayer and of the scriptures. He has an earnest desire to do what is right and continue on the straight and narrow path. G really is such a strength to our branch here. I know he will do great things in the future.

On Saturday we had the pleasure of teaching a man for the first time. His name is H. We taught the first lesson and he seemed pretty receptive to our message. After our lesson was over he asked "Where can I donate money to your church?" We were taken aback. I thought that perhaps he did not understand our purpose after all, so I said, "Oh we are not asking for money..." But he jumped in before I could finish. He said, "I know, but I just want to donate money to this church." We were both very surprised as no one had ever asked us this question before. It was amazing to see that this man, this complete stranger realized the significance of what we were sharing and who we were representing. It was such a joy to see this man's generosity and kindness.

This week had been wonderful! I wish my vocabulary was adequate to say what I really feel. I have absolutely cherished my time serving in Thousand Oaks! I love the people here! This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am so incredibly excited to serve in Santa Paula! I know that this is exactly where the Lord needs me. I love being a missionary! It brings me such joy to serve my brothers and sisters! I know this is the Lord's work! It is true!

Mom! Yes, transfers are tomorrow. I am getting transferred to Santa Paula! I will be back-up training. That means I will be training a new missionary.

She has been out for 5 weeks. So I will be the senior companion, and I will be driving. Do I even remember how to drive? Haha of course! Hopefully! Yes, it's only been 5 months.

I am so excited for this opportunity to learn and grow. I was really surprised to hear that I will be training. But the Lord knows what is best for me. I am super excited!

It sounds like you all have had a crazy week! That's also crazy to hear about the goats. And Andrew and Spencer, that just makes me laugh. So if you don't mind I can send that package with bro wutkee. I just thought it would be cheaper. And if you aren't home he could just drop it off at the house. I hope that's okay. We are eating with the wutkee's tonight. Hopefully it's fine if I give them your phone #?

Well I don't have much time. I am excited for this next week. I'm sure I will have many great stories to tell you next week. Thank you so much for your love and prayers and all that you do for me. I appreciate it so much! I love you all some much! That picture of the kids in the jeep is adorable! Did Amber cut her hair?

Have the BEST week ever! Love ya lots and lots!

Con mucho amor

Hermana Killpack!

Also, I may possible send home a camera xd card. For some reason my camera will not read it. It says it's dirty or something. I've tried cleaning it a million times. All my other cards will work on the camera but not this one. Perhaps you, or Andrew can do something to fix it. I have a lot of pictures on it. Also maybe I could have my red camera. The paint on this camera (josh's old one) is starting to chip off. But then again I just remembered that I don't know where the cords to my red camera is. I think the camera is in my desk in my old room or in one of the boxes in the storage room. I don't know. But if it doesn't have a cord than I can't use it anyway. Hmmm I'll figure out something. Well I hope you have the best day ever Mom! I love you lots and lots!

Keep smiling!
:)

Love tu hija favorita!

Last Week in Thousand Oaks

From the letter to the President:

This week was simply marvelous! We were able to see so many miracles! Last Monday we were out shopping when a man started talking to us in Spanish. He asked us, "Do you know Spanish?" "Yes" we replied a little confused. He then went on to tell us that he had talked with missionaries before. He asked us to teach him about Joseph Smith. We talked with him for about 15 minutes and helped to answer some of the questions that he had. He does not live in our area but it was great to be able to teach this man. It strengthened my testimony that we always need to be worthy and ready to teach, no matter what we are doing or where we are.

This Tuesday we were able to teach P! We were able to teach him about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He asked us what he needs to do to be baptized. We explained the steps and he really took to heart what we taught him. He had a myriad of questions but we testified to him that sometimes we don't need to know everything. We taught him that when we have faith we can have the courage to keep moving forward even if we don't know everything.

We were also able to teach a woman named R. We shared with her the message of the Restoration. She really listened to what we had to say. She asked some really great questions about the Book of Mormon. It is always so fun teaching someone who is so willing to learn!

On Wednesday we taught A! We were able to teach her the 10 commandments, Sabbath day, and obey and honor the law. She did not have any problem with the commandments and committed to live them. I have simply loved teaching Adalina! She is so faithful! She has a quote which I absolutely love! "Primero Dios!" I can see that she does put God first in her life. Yesterday she came to church and brought her two daughters. I have loved seeing her faith grow. I think if we all had the mindset to put God first in our lives, this world would be a better place. Adalina is a great example to me! Each time we visit with her we are able to see that she is more and more prepared for baptism. We have her baptismal date scheduled for the 21 of June.  We hope and pray that all will work out so that she can be baptized this Saturday.

This week we were also able to teach P and her younger brother E. We went over the commandment obey and honor thy parents. We talked about the importance of obeying our parents. We invited them to think of several things that they could do to show their parents that they honored them. It is always delightful teaching this family!

We also had a wonderful lesson this week with a woman named L. L and her husband have so much faith. They let us right in, turned off the TV and listened to what we had to say. L told us that she gains her faith from reading from the Bible, listening to inspiration music, and praying. We were able to testify of the power of the scriptures. We taught them about the Book of Mormon. L said that she would read it. L husband asked us about Joseph Smith and we were able to expound upon the subject. A lot of people have misconceptions about Joseph Smith. They think that we pray to him, or that we worship him. However this certainly is not the case. Each time that we have clarified who Joseph Smith is, I see a light of understanding come into a person's face. I know that Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet of God. That he was an instrument in the Lords hands for helping to restore the original Church of Jesus Christ. This is Jesus Christ's church!

We also had the great privilege to teach G's sons! We talked with them about Nephi. We shared the story about who he was able to build a ship through the power and strength of the Lord. We also talked about Laman and Lemuel. That sometimes in life there are people who complain, or fight with us. But if we are faithful like Nephi was, we can truly do all things. E and E gave some great comments and seem to be opening up more to us.

On Saturday we found T! We had talked with him once before. He told us that he felt his faith was fading. He said that he wanted to come to our church. We were able to talk about the Book of Mormon with him. He told us that he feels like he should come to church. He feels like our message is true. I know that is it true! It is delightful to see his faith and his desire to do what he knows is right.

This week was phenomenal! We were able to see so many miracles! I know that by small and simple things great things are truly brought to pass. I know this is the true church. This is the church of Jesus Christ! As a missionary, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ! What an honor and a privilege it is to be apart of this great work! I know that with God all things truly are possible! I know that he has a perfect plan for each of us imperfect people!"

Mom! I have so much to say to you too! But I'll have to write you a letter because there is never enough time. First, no I haven't sent the skirt and scriptures. There is a member who has a daughter that lives in Rexburg. He will be driving down in 2 or 3 weeks. He offered to take anything home that I need. So I will send some things with him if that's okay. He is always willing to bring anything back to California.

Also what is my blog address? I wanted to give it to a girl in our ward. She is thinking about serving a mission. Thanks!

I'm glad Father's Dad was great! Haha yes definitely need to make chocolate cake! Por su puesto! I'm glad he liked the picture! Yes I too can see that one day Guillermo will be a leader! He has grown so much in his faith! I still need to tell you about his conversion story!

I'm SO glad that you like my letters! Yes, I have a love for words. And cleverly thought-out sentences. I must get that from you! :)

Yes, transfers are soon! One more week! Yes I love hearing from you! It makes my day!

Well I have to go, but please have the best day ever! I will write you a letter today! I have some funny stories to tell you! I love you so much! Thank you SO much for all your love and support! You are the BEST family in the world!

Con mucho amor

Hermana Killpack!

Oh also ps the Santa Rosa Valley is in our area but we don't go there a whole lot. There isn't a lot of Spanish there. There are just crazy HUGE mansions!

Okay that is all, love ya lots Mumsie!
